The term Scart came from Syndicat des Constructeurs d’Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs, Radio and Television Receiver Manufacturers’ Association. This is a French company and is associated with twenty one pin connector associated with establishing connection between audio and visual equipments. In Europe scart is used to establish the relation and connectivity between the visual and audio equipment and of late considered as the standard connector for such devices. However, it is less frequently used in other parts of the world as connecting device.
However, an alarming fact is that scart is slowly losing its relevance as the new and modern and also updated digital and high-definition television like HDMI has arrived in the market. SCART is not capable to transmit HD television signals without loosing the clarity of significance. SCART in fact lead to massive losses in the quality of the picture by involving the earlier and convenient method of conversion. Traditional conversion method involves conversion to analogue and this older standard is capable of providing a relatively limited bandwidth. This effect is less clarified on smaller television sets. There are some official standard that has been fixed for the scart and that is CENELEC document whose number is EN 50049-1.
Sometimes there are some other standard for scart and scart is very often referred as IEC 933-1 standard. In United States of America scart is popular by another name and the name is commonly used there. The common name for scart cable is EIA Multiport, this is an EIA interface.
